bush on economic crisis: "looks like i'm gonna have a lot of work to do!" [*really?*]

"that's why people sent me to washington d.c., when you see a problem, put a team together and solve it...i'm glad to be back here in texas... i'm uh, you know people say, 'are you looking forward to coming home?'  yeah, i'm looking forward to living here but in the meantime, it looks like i'm gonna have a lot of work to do, between today, and when, uh, and when the new president takes office."  -
george w. bush in san antonio, october 6th, 2008

whoa! let me try and get this straight...

before this economic crisis hit like a ton of bricks (which, by the way, we've seen coming for many, many months), was george w. bush actually thinking about kicking back in his west wing hammock?

as if the ailing campaigns in afghanistan and iraq were not enough to keep him with "a lot of work to do" until the very last minute of his presidency?

as if the newly aggressive russian army which attacked the sovereign nation of georgia doesn't need a lot of special attention until the final day of bush's presidency?

as if new orleans, 3-years-post-katrina, were not enough to keep him busy until january 20th, 2009?

as if 40 million americans without health insurance were not enough to keep him working up until the last day of his term?  really?

how about al qaeda's constant and looming threat to kill americans by the thousands or millions?

was geoge w. bush really thinking, even for one second, that he wouldn't truly "have a lot of work to do, between today and when, uh, and when the new president takes office?"

really?
